William R. Schweikert

1922 - 2013

 

Columbiana - William Robert Schweikert, 91, retired educator and WWII veteran, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013, surrounded by his wife, family and friends.
 
 
 
William Robert “Uncle Bob” was born June 14, 1922 in Copley, Ohio, the second son of William Grove Schweikert and Hazel E. (Finch) Schweikert-Gates.
 
 
 
He graduated in 1940 from Mesopotamia Public School. 
 
 
 
Mr. Schweikert joined the U.S. Coast Guard as a pharmacist mate and served aboard a troop transport in the Pacific Theater.
 
 
 
He received his Bachelor’s Degree in secondary education in 1949 from NW Missouri State University and Master’s Degree in general school administration in 1955 from the University of Iowa.
 
 
 
He spent 27 years as a teacher, school principal and superintendent of schools in Iowa before retiring to Arizona. While in Arizona, he undertook a new educator role for an additional five years as the executive director for the Cerebral Palsy Foundation Pre-School in Tucson, AZ.
 
 
 
Mr. Schweikert is survived by his second wife, Gabriella M., of Columbiana, daughter, Pamela B. Schweikert, of Maple Grove, MN; a sister, Betty Donner, of N. Lima; step-son, Laszlo Hudak; step-daughter, Lillian (Ronald) Avila-Zanoline; grandsons, Roy A. Avila, Nicholas J. Avila, Steven R. Avila; and great-granddaughters, Lucia Rose and Ruby Jaye.
 
 
 
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie (Jones); brother John; and sisters, Helen Moore and Veldine Clark.
 
 
 
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 26, at the Columbiana First United Methodist Church, 210 S. Main St., Columbiana, OH., where family will receive friends from 10 A.M. until time of services at 11 A.M.
 
  
 
Mr. Schweikert will be cremated with private interment in Fairview Cemetery, in Mesopotamia, Ohio.

Wallace D. Edenfield

1928 - 2013


McDonald - Wallace D. Edenfield, formerly of Warren, born May 30, 1928 in Uniontown, PA, the son of Minnie and Edward Edenfield, and one of eleven children, died Friday, October 18, 2013, at the Hospice of the Valley in Poland.

Wallace served his county in the U.S. Navy during WWII and The Korean War. 

He retired from the City of Warren as it’s real estate officer.

He was a Master Mason at Carroll F. Clapp Lodge #655 and past Grand Master of the Ali Baba Grotto. He was also a Boy Scout Master and Soap Box Derby director, and a member of Christ Episcopal Church.

Wallace enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his great granddaughter, Zoe.

He is survived by his daughter, Kelley (Reno) Edenfield; daughter-in-law, Diane Edenfield; grandchildren, Adam (Alyssa), Whitney and five great-grandchildren; his brother, Walter (Sylvia); sisters, Jean (Paul) and Virginia.

He is preceded in death by his former wife, Martha; children, twins Donald and Donna and son, Sam. His brothers, Edward, Francis, Stenson, Ewing, Alfred, Robert and Carl.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 21, at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm, with the service to follow at 4:30 pm.

Entombment will take place at Crown Hill Burial Park.

Arrangements were entrusted to Selby Funeral Home.



 
Nicola Ruggeri

1928 - 2013


Warren - Nicola “Nick” Ruggeri, 85, died Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood, OH.

Mr. Ruggeri was born September 21, 1928 in Gioiosa Marea, Italy, the son of Filippo and Carmela (Gumina) Ruggeri.

He attended school in Italy and later served in the U.S. Army.

A long time Warren resident, Mr. Ruggeri was employed by Republic Steel, where he retired as a crane operator.

He married Margherita on January 5, 1956. She died in October of 2003.

Mr. Ruggeri leaves behind a son, Richard Ruggeri of Novelty, OH; a daughter, Carmela Previte of Cleveland; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

His parents, wife, one brother and a sister preceded him in death.

A private funeral service was held for Mr. Ruggeri, Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Crown Hill’s Chapel Mausoleum.
