Donald A. Thomas, Sr.

1940 - 2010



Donald Thomas Sr.Warren - Donald A. Thomas Sr., 70, of Warren, died Friday, June 4, 2010 at his home.

 
Donald was born in Travers City, Michigan on March 15, 1940, the son of Arthur H. and Jean Lee Cook Thomas.
 
He drove a truck for 40 years, 27 of which he worked at Yellow Freight, where he retired in 2003.
 
Donald enjoyed fishing, golfing and gardening. He was an active member of the ITAM 29 and the Slovak Club. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
 
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Carol (Reilly) Thomas, and his children, Donald A. (Barbara) Thomas Jr. of Vienna, Richard (Zeke) E. Thomas of Warren, Robert (Barbara) Michael of Cortland, William (Patti) Michael of Hollywood, FL, and Jonathon Michael of Warren; Dawn Marie Thomas of Muskegon, MI, Vicky Lynn (Hershel) Whitt of Greene Township, Heidi (David) Huffman of Champion, Carrie (Ronald) Grim of Howland; sisters, Nancy (Jim) Sanfrey, Cathy (Bill) Smith, Mary (Lane) Overfield; brothers, Alton (Sue) Thomas and Phillip Thomas. Also surviving Donald are 23 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Jean Thomas and brother, Jerry Thomas.
 
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm and from 10 to 11 am Thursday at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna, The funeral service will be 11 am Thursday following the calling hours.
 
Burial will take place at Crown Hill Burial Park.

Jean L. Sprague

1932 - 2010


Jean L. Sprague
Jackson, MI - Jean L. Sprague, 77, died early Sunday morning, June 6, 2010, at Allegiance Hospital in Jackson, Michigan.

 
Jean was born December 2, 1932 in Parma, Ohio, the daughter of Roy and Jean (Lanigan) Steinbaugh.
 
Jean was a homemaker, loving Mother and a resident of Warren for many years.
 
On February 2, 2010, she received a Certificate of Graduation from the Good News Bible study course and was continuing her Bible study at Jordan Park’s Church.
 
Jean will be reunited in Heaven with her husband of 53 years, Loyd A. Sprague, who she married July 7, 1956. Loyd passed away early in 2009.
 
She will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and companion bunny, Rascals.
 
She leaves behind a son, Loyd (Glenda) Sprague, Jr. and a daughter, Joni (Michael) Eckrote.
 
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
 
Calling hours will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Friday, with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna.

Carl L. Jobes

1914 - 2010

 

Sandusky - Carl L. Jobes, 95, died at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio, Friday, June 11, 2010.
 
Carl was born October 2, 1914 in Littleton, W.Va., the son of Grover Cleveland Alexander and Bertha (Church) Jobes.
 
Carl served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
 
He retired from Warren Tool Co. in 1979 as a toolmaker.
 
Carl enjoyed reading westerns, doing yard work and visiting with friends.
 
Carl married Virginia Opal Anderson on August 13, 1941. Virginia died January 28, 2007.
 
Carl leaves behind a son, Charles (Susan) Jobes of Canton; three daughters, Carolyn (Thurman) Selman of Corsicana, TX, Mary Jo Ritchie and Sandra (Bud) Keener of Mount Vernon, OH.; two brothers, Harley Jobes of Canton, OH and Grover Jobes of Atlanta, GA.
 
Also surviving Carl are 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
 
Preceding Carl in death are his parents and wife.
 
The funeral service will be held Monday at 12:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service at 11:00 am, at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna.

Paul L. Shaffer

 

1927 - 2010


Shaffer

Warren - Paul L. “Dado” Shaffer, 82, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
 
He was born November 1, 1927 in Massillon, OH, the son of Willis A. and Myrtle (Davis) Shaffer.
 
Paul graduated from Massillon Washington High School in June of 1946.
 
He served in the U.S. Navy after graduation, serving in the Pacific Theater.
 
He retired in 1983 after 38 years of working at the Ohio Bell Telephone Co., where he was also involved with the Junior Achievement Program.
 
Paul enjoyed boating and was an avid fisherman. He also loved his animals.
 
Paul was married October 21, 1949 to Geraldine (Jerry) Keller. They had the privilege of celebrating 60 wonderful years of marriage in 2009. Together they spent many wonderful winters in Key Largo, FL.
 
Paul is survived by his wife, Jerry; a daughter, Paula (Gary) Schultz of Vienna; three sons, Gregory (Tonya) Shaffer of Key Largo, FL, Mark (Cathy) Shaffer of Columbus, OH, and Jay (Amber) Shaffer of Cudjoe Key, FL. His memory will be celebrated by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Willis A. Shaffer, Jr., and L. Dean Shaffer; and sisters, Evelyn (Shaffer) Blake, Doris (Shaffer) Burd.
 
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 pm with a calling hours one hour prior to the funeral service, at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna, Oh.

Charles M. Plant, Sr.

1924 - 2010


SOUTHINGTON - Charles M. Plant, 86, of Southington passed away at Community Skilled Nursing Home Saturday morning, June 19, 2010.
 
Charles was born June 11, 1924 in Corning, OH, the son Percy and Marguerite Jadwin Plant.                                                                               .
 
Charles was a 1942 graduate of Bristolville High School in Bristolville, OH.
 
He was employed by Packard Electric for 55 years, retiring in 1997.
 
Charles was a U. S. Army WWII Veteran that served in the European Theater as an ambulance driver and medic.
 
Charles was a member of the Leavittsburg Church of God and a member of The Gathering. He enjoyed golfing, working crossword puzzles, traveling, writing in his journals and socializing with his fellow man.
 
Charles leaves to cherish his memory, three Children, Linda (Wayne) Arndt of NJ, Elaine (Ken) Ponikvar of Warren and Charles M. (Kathy) Plant of Dayton; two stepdaughters, Lisa (Mark) Mitchell of Orlando, FL, and Trish Shaffer of Florida; 2 Brothers, Carl (Pat) Plant of Indiana and Vernon (Linda) Plant of Warren; 2 Sisters Ruth Varvir of Orwell, OH and Diane (Alan) Bradford of Gustdavis, OH; two grandchildren, Joseph and Emily Arndt and 2 step Grandchildren Justin and Travis Mitchell.
 
Preceding Charles in death are his parents, his wife Martha (Hanna) Plant, who he married on September 11, 1989 and passed away on June 27, 2009, 4 brothers Clement, Donald, Dale and Paul Plant.
 
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and Wednesday from 11:00 to 12:00 pm, at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum, with the funeral service at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, also at Crown Hill Chapel Mausoleum in Vienna.
